Will time stop?

1.26 seconds is the time it takes for a beam of light to reach the Earth from the moon. One hour consists of 60 minutes. The universe is already 13.8 billion years old. Maybe you think that all of these are facts, because these can be proved with a ticking clock.

However, Albert Einstein, the most famous and greatest physicist in history, said: “Time is a cognitive illusion of people.” This seems to imply that time only exists in Clock and calendar. So, is time real, or is it our subjective illusion? Can it slow down and pause? Is there a place where there is no time?

Although humans have been understanding time for thousands of years, they still have not found a satisfactory answer. In order to understand the time to explore mystery, we embarked on a journey of exploring time.

How many seconds is “now”?

The son is in Chuan Shang: The deceased is like a husband, staying up late. Most people think that time is not going back. The walking of time is like an arrow from the string. It will never return, leaving the past forever. Although we often regret it, we can’t help but save the mistakes of the past, but the common sense will tell us that time will not go backwards and we must cherish the present.

Human beings can perceive the passage of time, and what people call “now” is actually a point between the past and the future when time moves to the future at a constant speed. The time humans experience can be measured using tools such as clocks and calendars. Since the middle of the 17th century, the Dutch physicist Huygens successfully invented the first pendulum clock, and the progress of “timekeeping” has been continuously improved. The clock uses motion to convert the passage of time into an easily measurable amount.

So, how long is the “now” in human perception? In principle, “now” is a point that is fleeting. But according to some sayings, humans feel that time is passing, “now” is about 2.7 seconds. Everything before this is history, and the rest belongs to the future.

Whose time is the fastest?

However, in some situations, the speed of time is not always the same. This phenomenon is called chronological expansion by physicists. According to general relativity, gravity can cause time to swell, and the stronger the gravitational force, the slower the time lapses. For example, the atomic clock at sea level is slower than the atomic clock on the top of Mount Everest, because the gravitational force at sea level is stronger than that at the top of the mountain, although the deviation between them is minimal, about three hundred thousandths.

It is not only gravitation that affects the speed of walking, but also the speed of movement of objects. According to the special theory of relativity, the faster the movement, the slower the time. Some people have calculated that if you can drive the car to the speed of near-light speed (300,000 kilometers per second), the time will be 7000 times slower than normal.

If humans have been running at high speed around the earth, there will be “crossing” in time. For example, the long-distance record holder in Padaka, the Russian astronaut spent about two and a half years (879 days) living in orbit around the Earth, during which the clock on the spacecraft and The time difference accumulated between the clocks on Earth is about 0.02 seconds. In other words, Padaka is a future person from 0.02 seconds later, he should be considered a real time traveler!

No time

Is there time anywhere in the universe? In fact, scientists believe that the center of the black hole is a place without time. This space is compressed to the smallest point, a space-time point with infinite density – singularity. This is unimaginable, because the black hole itself has a very large gravitational force, and no photon can escape its “magic power”, so no one can see its interior, even using the world’s most powerful telescope.

Will time stop or disappear? Cosmologists believe that time is closely related to the death of the universe. If the universe has a “big collapse” in the future, that is, all the matter inside is like a black hole, curled up to a point, then the universe is over, and at the same time, this is the end of time. But there is another version of the time “death” idea, which was proposed by British physicist Roger Penrose. He predicted that after hundreds of millions of years, the universe would move toward “hot silence” – all stars depleted of fuel, black holes also exhausted energy, and all matter died. There will be no atoms in the space and time will cease to exist.

The end of this version of Penrose’s time is like a person’s death: people are made up of billions of cells, which are made up of atoms and molecules. These inanimate ingredients are organized in a miraculous way to create life. After humans went to death, the body became a pile of atoms. The universe may be the same, perhaps the components of the universe created time. Without these components, the universe has no past, no present, no future.
